Private buses, auto-rickshaw drivers oppose Shakti scheme of Congress govt in Mangaluru, Udupi

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru/Udupi (MS)

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 22: Drivers of private buses and auto-rickshaws have expressed objection on the Shakti scheme of the new Congress government which provides free bus facility for women.

The drivers said that they are suffering losses and find it difficult to carry on with their life. Women who used to travel in private buses are travelling in government buses even if they have to stand for the journey. Only men are seen in private buses.

Though there are very few government buses under the limits of MCC, government buses are more on Puttur-Mangaluru and Dharmasthala-Mangaluru routes. The number of women passengers in government buses is doubled. On the contrary, income of private buses has gone down. Women who used to go to market on auto-rickshaws are waiting for government buses. This has caused drastic income loss for auto-rickshaw drivers also.

A private bus conductor Jayaprakash said, “We report to duty at 5 am and work till night. If passengers are not there our collection will be low. In government buses they are loading more passengers than specified. We have to put diesel and pay taxes whether passengers are there or not. Also we should get our salaries. No one understands our difficulties.”

Shivananda, a private bus driver said, “We do not object the Shakti scheme of the government. However, without taking pros and cons of other sectors the decision is taken which has put us in difficulty. The government should also provide guarantee to us also.”

Every dog has its day.Now its KSRTC's,our state govt is pro government whuch is good for all public rather than central govt promotes privatization. Its not healthy for a nation. Look at gulf countries theya re very tiny countries yet look at their airlines, their metros, their bus transport ,there is no privatisation of anything, this is the key for strong economy holder of the country. That's what Karnataka government has taken a baby step.If every state does this then kisi ke baap ka bhi himmat nahi Bharat ko touch karne ki. India should become leader of south asian countries. Then Asia and then finally the world. Every Indians dream.

Why only in Mangalore and Udupi Shakthi scheme is opposed in whole of Karnataka???.?.Only in Mangalore and Udupi BJP had won so it’s a politicians stirred issue. Other regions of Karnataka there is no such sentiments from private owners. Men are the one’s who travel the most compared to women for all sorts of reasons. There might be a little loss for private transportation owners but it will correct itself.

Why auto rickshaw drivers cry? I don’t think anyone will use auto rickshaws to commute on main roads. Most of the time auto rickshaws are used to commute interior roads where buses are not available.

Now private bus drivers and conductors are crying.Previously they used to overtake govt.buses and run for their life to load .Good if private buses are less and road will be more free for others.Otherwise take up a talk or handle with govt.to pay some money if they take women on their bus ,so that govt bus is not over loaded.

Auto drivers now whining & crying. they are worst than pvt bus transportation. their disgusting attitude rudeness & lapse in duty. They charge high never give change in return + once their daily income is sufficient they won't load any passengers when asked to stop & much more. Now reap what you sowed.

Government cannot roll out buses just after placing orders. They have to wait for months and in the meantime, women who have nothing else to do do not mind waiting in line and kill their time, gossiping with other women on the line. Traffic police should fine overcrowded buses. For a free ride, women will do anything (and men too, I would add). By the way, if elderly women get discounts on travel, the free bus ride is less beneficial to them.

Most of the Autos and Private busses are communal bjp's supporters. And the Congress government didn't implement shakti scheme to suppress Auto drivers/owners or private busses drivers/owners. This is free for Sthree Shakti, Auto drivers wives/ Auto owners wives , and Private buss drivers wives Private bus owners wives can travel free guaranteed. Jai Congress for implementing free, free. Those who have opposed are the 1st to move in line for free, free..... ಬೊಕ್ಕ ಮೆಕ್ಕಿಲ್ನ ಬಾರಿ ಕಿರಿ, ಕಿರಿ..ಪಿರಿ, ಪಿರಿ...

In last decade fuel prices have doubled. Private bus owners were threatening agitation during UPA, once NDA came into power they have not even done a press conference to ask the govt to stop increasing the prices. These selective protests by bus owners has brought them to this situation.

"Women who used to go to market on auto-rickshaws are waiting for government buses. This has caused drastic income loss for auto-rickshaw drivers also." Being apolitical what's the problem if they wait for the Government bus, husband's car or boyfriend's bike...if they are making a saving...so be it ... Good luck to them for their pocket money... I smell a Patriachal mindset here because the Ladies have got their Freedom they are empowered now.... 75 saal mein Nehru ne kyaa kiya ?? Yes he's right This should have come a long time back.... It's come now... But not through him Ladies enjoy your trip !!!

Private bus owners are main cause of traffic in mangalore and udupi District. Because of their reckless driving many.lives has been lost. Time to abolish private buses and introduce govt buses. If private buses owners are incurring loses. They should sell the busses to govt. And rest at home.

Congress got 1 seat in DK & 0 in Udupi. People other than these twin districts voted for power to Congress to enjoy these schemes. So no use in your opposition. These same opposition you done it for central government for their loot means you will be called Deshdrohis. But you will not do because our undivided district citizens are more communal. We are more interested in communal politics rather than developmental politics.
