Alagiri Arrives at Coimbatore for DMK General Council Meet

Coimbatore, Jul 23: Senior leader and union minister MK Alagiri arrived here on Saturday July 23 to participate in the DMK’s general council meeting.

Isssues regarding the party's strained ties with Congress and other issues will reportedly be discussed at the meeting.

Alagiri has said that his father Karunanidhi was healthy enough to continue as party leader and there was no need for replacement at present. However, his supporters were upset since their leader's pictures found no place in the posters put up across the city for the meeting of the General Council.

The meeting is the first of its kind after the party lost the last assembly elections in April.

Alagiri is also in a rift with his brother Stalin over the latter's possibility of being given greater responsibility in the party, and earlier there had been reports that he would probably boycott the meeting.

    To revive the DMK and to prepare the party to face the forth coming parliament election in 2014 if not a mid term poll, the party should shake of the bad image created by 2G scam & family rule not only applicable for the Ist family of DMK but also other outfits and the candidates for Dist & MLA/MP seats from clean back ground and highly educated, commited to party & have vision for the state/nation as a whole.The senior party leaders should not have any say in ion but merit alone should be the criteria.The candidate should inspire confidence in voters mind since the literacy level accross the state has gone up comparing to 1980 & 1990.My sympathy for the party is being the person hailing from Tiruvarur Dist, Which the party leadership belongs.
