Bengaluru, Jun 26: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who has already started cracking the whip as Bengaluru Development Minister in respect of the BBMP and BDA functioning, on Monday advised the officials of his home district of Ramanagara to work honestly and efficiently without going out of the way and also not to give or take bribes.

Addressing the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) quarterly review
meeting at the Ramanagara Zilla Panchayat, he asked the officials to solve the problems of the people within the purview of law and rules.

"Never go out of the way, do your work honestly, diligently and efficiently.
Don’t accept bribes or give bribes for anything,’’ he said pointing out that the very fact that politicians approach them indicates that the problems pertaining to their constituency have not been resolved," he said.

Shivakumar said:"People have elected us to serve them. Officials are duty-
bound to discharge their work and solve the problems of the people within the framework of law. People have seen BJP government and its scams and corruption and therefore we have been entrusted with governance because they expect good and transparent administration from us.’’

Doing some plain-speaking, the deputy chief minister asked the officials to
raise their hands to indicate how many officials were residing in the district
headquarters.

"I am giving a month’s time to all officers to set up residence in the headquarters and nobody should move out of the headquarters. All officers from grama panchayat to district level must stay in the headquarters and the Deputy Commissioner must provide information of officers going out of the headquarters for any reason,’’ he said.

Shivakumar directed all officers should indicate their phone number, addresses and photos in a district group with biometric records of all visitors, including the attendance. There should be no private clubs, ganja or rave parties in the districts and all illegal activities must be put down with the help of police, he said.

The officers must ensure that the government programmes reach the people
and signboards against corruption must be displayed prominently. The officers need not be afraid of RTE activists as many of them were fake people. "You do your work honestly and we will look after you,’’ he said.

He asked the officials to have photos and video recordings before commencing any work and at every stage. No fake bills, double billing or double entries or separate billing for two departments will be allowed.

"Action will be taken against all irregularities. Records of works taken up under MP or MLA grants must be scrupulously maintained. This is a government of the people and must serve the people,’’ he said.

The deputy chief minister said the government will implement all the 5 guarantees. Shakti has already become a roaring success. Gruhajyoti registration has started. Gruhalakshmi app is ready. The launch date will be decided shortly.

Anna Bhagya and Yuva Nidhi are being implemented.

He declared that driving licence and insurance must be compulsorily enforced
for all tractors within the next 100 days. Further, a Navodaya or Delhi Public School model schools must be established for two or three panchayats in a district throughout the State as it will minimise the migration of people in search of good schools for their children.

World Anti-Drugs Day

Earlier in the morning, he participated in the mega awareness jatha from
Vidhana Soudha to Kanteerava Stadium by foot and administered the oath to school children against the menace of drugs in the world anti-drugs day celebration organised by Youth Empowerment and Sports Department in association with Karnataka Gandhi Memorial Fund.

He also shared food along with school children.

Additional Chief Secretary Dr Shalini Rajneesh, MLC Nagaraj Yadav and
Gandhi Memorial Fund chairman Dr Wooday P Krishna and others participated.

God knows how an officer struggles to work efficiently under the pressure of influences by politicians and political parties...
