Mangalore, May 13: Susheg Jivith, a 40-bed Dementia Care facility situated at Manjankatte, Kompadavu near Ferrar, was officially opened under the auspices of Susheg Charitable Trust.

The inauguration ceremony took place on May 13 and was graced by D. Peter Paul Saldanha, the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese. The event commenced with an Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Bishop, accompanied by Fr Valerian D'Souza, Fr Sunil Viegas of St Antony's Shrine, Kerekatte, and Fr Melwyn Pinto, SJ, rector of St Aloysius institutions.

Following the ceremony, a brief felicitation program was held to express gratitude to all the benefactors. The managing trustee, Gerry Pinto, extended a warm welcome to the attendees. In his presidential address, Bishop Dr Saldanha emphasized the importance of caring for individuals facing debilitating conditions like dementia. He commended the Trustees for their unwavering dedication despite facing obstacles.

Loretta Pinto proposed a vote of thanks, and Judith D'Silva served as the program's compere. The event concluded with a fellowship meal, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the attendees.

    My name is Gracy Machado. I am 71 years old nd my husband 74. I live in Muscat with my mother and adult children. My mother Mrs.Mary Serrao, wl be 91 in another 4 months. I have been looking after my mother since the last 8 years and before that my brother and sis in law looked after her for nearly 8 years after my father passed away. My mother has been a psychiatric patient since the last 40 years plus. With continuous treatment, we thank god,🙏 she is much better today and on the lowest doses possible. Unfortunately, in the last month or so she is totally wheechair bound. She does converse, eats well, sleeps too but a constant watch over is necessary. She is restless though and constantly wants to get out of her seat. She doesnt hear too well, sight fine, remebering difficult which is understandable for her age. She was very difficult for the last 16 years and had to take her to muscat bec of her mistreatment of my sis in law who has cared for her well being. I have been diagnosed with L4L5 spondylolisthesis nd my husband with mild cognitive impairment just last month bec of which my sis in law adviced i send my mother bzck to bombay. Unfortunately, she had surgery for blockage in 2 arteries nd had immediate surgery nd is recuperating. It seems everything turned for the worst in the last 2 months. I was hoping my mother could be cared for at your facity as we needed a facility which understood mental health problems. I could meet with you and discuss the way forward. God bless

    With my little known studies on his subject, and looking to the no. of people now suffering with this un-known dementia problem in our own community. this step taken by many of our well known personalities, I am sure, lot of good could be achieved ! May our Good Lord Bless all those who are doing some help for this really Worthy Cause; provide them some advanced Medical Help with Guidance in this area, Financial support, etc. etc. I Wish to PRAISE THE LORD !
