Mangaluru: Bill on deceased’s name – No benefit of Gruha Jyoti scheme for family members

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 27: Though there are many beneficiaries for the Gruha Jyoti, free electricity scheme of the Congress government, many might not be able to get the same as the electricity bills still have the name of the deceased head of the house.

Applications are invited to avail the scheme from Sunday. Right now only Aadhar card and Mescom bill copy are asked. However, while implementing it, necessary documents need to be submitted. It is mandatory that the name of the electricity meter should be that of a living member of the household.

According to the information available, thousands of electricity bills are still in the name of people who are no more. In Sullia taluk, the electricity bills are still given in the names of deceased people. Now, Mescom is asking the consumers to get it transferred to the name of a living member. Now the consumers are thronging gram panchayats to get the name changed to that of a living member.

For name change one has to get Rs 200 stamp paper and along with that Aadhar card, ration card, house tax receipt, electricity bill, consent letter of guardian and notary needs to be done. Panchayat has to give no objection letter. Any pending water and house tax needs to be cleared.

There are 25 lac consumers under the limits of Mescom. Now the department is asking the consumers to get the name changed to that of a living member of the household.

Dear friends, please do the create speculation in this issue, now its true that they are asking the RR number and the Aadhar number. what else a tenant can provide other than this, there are many cluster of flats in one building ( like 15 families living ) so its difficult to create 15 tenant agreement with the house owner, also the RR number cannot be changed to the tenants name, suppose the tenants changes the house than once again a pain for the house owner to do this exercise, 200 units providing free to each house is not a loss making idea for the citizens, whatever they spend the power within the MESCOM limitation has to be adhered to than most of the poor families will get the benefit and escape from paying the electricity bill each month. once this procedure starts from July 2023, than it will be in a system and the citizens will sure get the benefit , hence therefor we sit and watch how it comes out, whether it will be a surcharge on the citizens or problems for the citizens, SUARE GRUHA JYOTI SYSTEM WILL PROVE THAT, IT IS GOING TO HELP OUT THE POOR FAMILITIES INCLUDING OTHER FAMILIES ALSO.

MESCOM is not asking the death certificate. Why they need Rs.200/ stamp paper ? MESCOM should do this free of charge upon the death certificate before they send the first bill after the death of deceased name. (so far MESCOM is sending the bills addressed to dead person ? what a shame or they do not want to work) Again they ask so many documents to change. Only house tax receipt, Electricity bill, death certificate of deceased person, proof of living person in the house is sufficient to make the name change. Rest of all documents are waste of money , work and time which is not at all connected to this job.
