Kasargod: Ticketless traveller locks himself up in Vande Bharat express train's toilet, arrested

Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (MS)

Kasargod, Jun 27: A youth, travelling without ticket on Vande Bharat express train, created panic as he locked the toilet door when the TTE arrived and did not open the same after repeated requests by the railway authorities.

Sharan (26), a resident of Kalyani Nilaya, Uppala Mangalpadi, is the accused who is in railway protection force custody now.

Sharan had boarded the Vande Bharat train at 2.30 pm on June 25 at Kasargod. The train was going to Thiruvananthapuram. As the ticket examiner arrived, he went inside the toilet as he did not have the ticket for travel. Though the TTE requested, the youth did not open the door.

In Kannur and Kozhikode railway stations, many tried to open the door. But the door could not be opened. Even the railway security force and railway police tried to open the door, but the door did not open.

When the train reached Shornur, three engineers tried to open the door but the door was locked firmly. When all attempts to open the door failed, the lock was broken and the youth was arrested.

In the beginning, the youth said that he was from Maharashtra by speaking in Hindi. Later on, after intensive interrogation, he agreed that he is a Malayali and resident of Uppala.

Railway police are investigating further.

Public toilets should be made to open from out in case of emergencies. In hospitals or health organizations etc can be opened from outside only from authorized people who have the key. This is but abnormal that even Engineers could nt open and had to brake. It can be sometimes life threat there ,so problemlos from authorized to opened. Here this fellow has to pay more now statt normal ticket .So eye opener in future.

Vande Bharat from Mumbai to Madgaon already started. Our Nalinanna should demand its extension to Mangalore. If materializes it will be deemed as his greatest achievement. We don’t need extension of Trivandrum – Kasargod to M’lore.

There should be some arrangement by which the door can be opened from outside if people like him go inside and don't respond despite repeated pleas; Vande Bharat design fault!!

Recently a passenger died in the toilet of Matsyagandha Express who body was found two days later. There are possibilities of children or elderly people getting struck in the toilet. Finally toilets can also be used as a hiding place by thieves and criminals waiting for a time and place to strike gullible victims. So the railway staff should be trained to unlock toilets in cases of emergency.

Very true; it's a design fault due to lack of common sense! Only some responsible person should have that command to open up the door in cases of emergencies when someone is not even replying verbally.
