Mangaluru: Rape, murder of woman – Accused sentenced to life imprisonment

Mangaluru, Jun 29: Justice Kantaraju of sixth additional district and sessions court of the city sentenced accused in the case of rape and murder of a woman, to life in prison.

Mohammed Ashraf alias Ashraf (33), a resident of Manjeshwar Patur Varkady Badimale, is the accused who was convicted by the court.

Ashraf barged into the house of a home alone woman at Belleri of Balepuni village on September 24, 2020, raped and murdered her. He burnt the mortal remains to destroy the evidence. In addition, he escaped from the spot after looting gold and cash.

Ashraf was sentenced to life imprisonment and Rs one lac fine. ACP of south sub division Ranjit Kumar was special investigating officer, who submitted chargesheet to the court.

Public prosecutor Jyoti Pramod Nayak and B Shekhar Shetty argued for the prosecution.
