A recent report excerpted from the Deccan Herald:: "What makes India’s roads deadliest in the worldTo curb road accidents, the government is identifying and fixing black spots on national highways considering road engineering issues are a major cause for causalities; car crashes into tree in Kapurthala. Speeding car runs into group of women in Bihar’s Gopalganj, two dead. Road crashes are an epidemic in India. They kill and disable over 900,000 people every year, more than anywhere in the world, costing India $156 billion, according to the World Bank."........

Extremely dangerous turn and has had 100s of accidents. New users of the road risk their life here. Only option is reduce speed limit to 20-30 for this have many and clear signs. May be one of the only places those barricades may make sense.

Many people commenting here don't realise that hitting a divider is one of the most dangerous things. Even 30 kmph speed is enough to cause fatality. It's in fact worser than hitting another vehicle or a small tree. RIP.

Then what is the solution; keeping sandbags or rubber sheilded pnuematic shock absorbers at accident prone places?

I am not sure what went wrong in this accident, but honestly in general, doctors are always in hurry, for them time is very expensive to save someone's life or make more money. I think from my opinion, what I see is more than saving money, they rush is to make more money, Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is actually the harsh reality.

Who knows how he hit the divider... But here in Mangalore and Bombay I have noticed people break signal and people coming with their Car/3 wheeler or 2 wheeler from wrong side to cross the road etc... This is creating danger to the driver who is on the right lane or side.. No bloody rules at all. The insurance policy also as to change in India if want to see no accident or less accident.

Even though Mumbai is 30x than DK in population, just compare the number of fatal accidents there and here; shockingly this place is literally the most accident prone one, the reasons which I cannot enumerate!!

We must not draw conclusions about the condition of the driver and occupants without knowing facts.... But even otherwise people drive and ride recklessly on roads.... Percentagewise it may be 65% rash drivers on roads in all situations.... Only Ambulances and Police vehicles on urgent tasks have the right to speed beyond road norms... Others must feel grateful they are not walking and maintain speeds they can control in any situations.... RIP to the departed soul....

It's an high end suv (probably Cretta), which wouldn't have toppled if it was not driven at high speed; I reckon the speed limit in this area is only 60 kmph!

The intersections on Udupi - Manipal Highway are very dangerous especially at night . Anyone not frequently using those roads should be very careful, they are very badly planned and can lead to many accidents during the rainy season.
