Mangaluru, Jul 1: Prof H Pattabhirama Somayaji, a lecturer in Mangalore University College and a noted thinker, passed away on Saturday July 1.

English professor H Pattabhirama Somayaji, had served for almost two decades at Mangalore University College.

A committed fearless intellectual, he was known for his stance against organized groups who are posing a serious danger to the right to life and free speech and expression.

Somayaji, after the infamous pub attack, had termed the Rama Sene as 'Ravana Sene' which had led to protests in the city.

In 2012, he was smeared with cow dung on his face by a Bajrang Dal activist, who harboured an ideological grudge against Somayaji.
