Raja on 2G Scam: I should be Rewarded, Not Prosecuted

New Delhi, Jul 25: Former telecom Minister A Raja in his defence in the 2G spectrum scam case in CBI Special Court on Monday July 25 said that he had not done anything wrong and was only following the NDA government's telecom policy.

Raja pleaded before Special CBI Judge O P Saini that his decision of not auctioning 2G spectrum was not wrong as he had implemented only what he had inherited.

He said that if at all the policy pursued by him was wrong then all former telecom ministers including Dayanidhi Maran and Arun Shourie are also liable to be prosecuted as they too followed the same policy.

“If I am following the law, I am not liable to be prosecuted. In fact, I should be rewarded," Raja said.

He also claimed that it was because of his policy that the mobile phone sector became competitive and reached the masses because of low call rates. He said he did so according to his 'obligation to social justice'.

"I am a servant of my people and I made the call rates of mobile phone so cheap that even a 'rickshaw wala' or a maid servant can be seen using it," Raja said.

Raja, who was arrested on February 2 for his alleged role in the 2G scam on Monday began his arguments opposing charges of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy against him.

    Yes Raja- you are honest in admitting you followed in the footsteps of your predecessors.
    Yes you have to be rewarded for serving your master Karunanidhi by enriching his empire by several thousand crores in graft by doing so.
    We won't support you or your predecessor's corruptions.Black is always Black-Don't try to whitewash it.

    ALL ROOTS OF SCAMS ARE EMBEDDED IN THE NDA. THIS IS CLEAR FROM WHAT WE SEE. NDA HAS A NON DEVELOPMENT AGENDA, SO THEY MADE ONLY MONEY. WHY BLAME RAJA? DIG THE ROOTS AND ARREST ALL OF THEM. DODDANNA DAMASKATTE

    What Raja is said absolute correct.
    Few years back there is was HUNDI CALLS ( its illegal )from India to Dubai and People making payment to Agent ( for Calls originating FROM India . Due TELECOM Revolution calls became so cheap,even hawkers and labours can use Mobile phone.

    Bye the wayS Nagesh Nayak always jumping for 2G Scam. Can he explain NDA's role ....?????

    Raja is right when he says that he was only following the NDA government's telecom policy. Telecom scams originated from the time of NDA rule. NDA started the allotment on the basis of “FIRST COME FIRST SERVED’. BJP minister Late Mr. Pramod Mahajan is the father of all telecom scams. He was removed from telecom ministry. Then came Arun Shouri and he and subsequent Telecom ministers continued same policy. As per the newly formed JPC Rs. 43523,92,00,000 (nearly 43,524 crores) were the loss to the national exchequer 12 years back and Mr Mahajan’s kick-backs were 576 crores. Raja may even come out from this 2G scam.
