Mangaluru, Jul 3: "Children are losing interest in arts which has led to the closure of the Arts section in many colleges. Everyone prefers joining the engineering, medicine, commerce and administrative sections. Sociology, psychology, philosophy are essential subjects for life. Where would our society reach without the knowledge of these? In such a situation, it's a matter of great pride that Mandd Sobhann has restarted Kalakul. These 8 students have bravely come forward to study theatre. I would like to give you'll three suggestions. Firstly, observe people. There are stories and dramas in their feelings. Secondly, take up the habit of reading. It has the power of leading you towards completeness. Thirdly, watch multilingual dramas. A vast range of dramas in different languages are available on social websites. Learn with enthusiasm and take Konkani theatre to greater heights", said Dr Alwyn Serrao, principal of St Anthony College, Naravi, on the occassion of launching the new batch of Kalakul, at Kalangann, Shaktinagar, on July 2.
Kalakul, the first theatre repertory in Konkani, was established in 2008. It has trained over 100 artistes in 12 batches, and has presented 250 shows of 52 plays.
