Beltangady, Jul 4: Prof Alex Ivan Sequeira, head of the Department of History has been appointed as the new principal of Sacred Heart College Madanthyar, by the Catholic Board of Education, Diocese of Mangalore.
Fr Stany Goveas, the correspondent of Sacred Heart Educational Institutions who is also the joint secretary of the Catholic board of education, handed over the appointment letter to Prof Sequeira in a short programme of handing over the responsibility. The presence of all the teaching and administrative staff for the small in-house event showed their support and solidarity to the new principal.
Fr Stany Goveas thanked the outgoing principal Dr Joseph NM who attained superannuation on June 30 after 30 years of fruitful teaching service. He also gave his best wishes and assured full support to the newly appointed principal.
Prof Alex Ivan Sequeira Hails from Niddody a small village near Kinnigoli who joined the teaching profession in the year 1992 after obtaining M A degree in history from Mangalore university. He is an efficient administrator who has held various positions at different levels in the college. It is to be noted that Prof. Alex Ivan Sequeira had earlier led the college as principal for eight years. He was also the NSS program officer for 2 terms.
About Sacred Heart College, Madanthyar
Sacred Heart College, Madanthyar (Dakshina Kannada Dist) was established on 15th June 1982 and it is a minority institution, governed & managed by the ‘Catholic Board of Education’ Diocese of Mangaluru. The college was established by the late Fr Ligoury D’Souza, with a novel objective of providing higher education to the rural youth.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide higher education for the deserving candidates and achieved many milestones in its progressive journey.
It is an aided institution affiliated to Mangalore University and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is re-accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade.
It is situated in Madanthyar, which is in Malnad Rural area of Belthangady Taluk. Sacred Heart College is an institution imparting quality higher education set in a peaceful environment seeking to function through mutual love and dedicated service with efficiency and creativity catering to the integral and personalized educational needs of all, especially the poor and the downtrodden. The college upholds the values propagated by Jesus Christ and enshrined in the Constitution of India.
The college adheres to the Curricula prescribed by the affiliating university. The university has introduced a Credit Based Semester System (CBSS) for UG programmes and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for PG programmes. The institution effectively implements the Curricula through a proper time table, calendar of events and teaching plans. The institution also implemented the guidelines of New Education Policy.
The admission process of the institution is in line with the guidelines of Mangalore University, Mangaluru which emphasizes inclusiveness in higher education. The institution takes meticulous care to include students from disadvantaged communities, gender and differently abled. The process of admission begins only after giving wide publicity. At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Management as well as Computer science streams with optional specializations and offers two years postgraduate course in Commerce stream under Mangalore University. It also offers Add-On Certificate Courses.
