Mangaluru, Jul 4: Tragedy struck in Ullal here as a man lost his life after falling into rainwater while crossing a culvert on Tuesday, July 4.

The incident took place at Pilaru under the Someswara Municipality of Ullal taluk, where heavy rainfall has been ongoing.

The deceased has been identified as Suresh Gatti (52), a resident of a rented house near Pilaru Panjandaya temple.

Suresh, a painter by profession, was returning home this evening after completing his work. Unfortunately, while crossing the culvert connecting to his house, he slipped and fell into the drain, drowning in the pouring rainwater and succumbing to suffocation.

Witnessing the distressing situation, Premananda, a former member of the Someshwar Gram Panchayat, along with Suresh's neighbor, Dhanraj, came to his rescue. They managed to pull Suresh out of the drain and rushed him to the hospital.

The untimely demise of Suresh has left his wife, who earns a living by making beedis, and his two daughters devastated. One of his daughters recently got married, while the younger daughter remains unmarried.

With the sudden loss of their pillar of support, the family now finds itself in a state of distress, lacking guidance and direction.

My sympathies to this family. I think the BJPs reps in Mangalore should support this family, and give them compensation equivalent to the mans wages, to support them for their livelihood. How can a man fall whilst crossing a culvert, if it does not have safety features foreseen, and that the Municipality of Mangalore is responsible for. But being a poor painters family, they cannot sue the Municipality! I should ask BJP boss Mr. Kateel to sue the Mangalore Municipality and get this family justice and a fair compensation. Let me see if he can walk the big talks he gives about supporting Hindus and BJP and blah blah blah.....
