DC Kurma Rao visits flood-affected areas of Udupi city

Udupi, Jul 6: Deputy commissioner (DC) Kurma Rao M visited the flood-affected areas of the City on Thursday June 6.

Speaking to mediapersons, the DC said, "Udupi district is witnessing heavy rain from the past five days and this has affected various places, especially low lying areas. We are undertaking precautionary measures to protect people. The NDRF and SDRF is all set if there is need to rescue people. Nine areas are identified and boats have been arranged. A few low lying areas are flooded and as a precautionary measure, we are shifting the residents of these areas.

“The task force team, all departments and local leaders are helping us. Lakshmi Hebbalkar, in-charge minister is in touch with us and has taken the necessary inputs and also issued directions to handle the situation. People can call control room 1077 for help. We are raising awareness among people residing near the coastal line, river and other water bodies to be careful, and also while crossing bridges. As the waves are stronger, do not get into the sea. The compensation will be immediately issued if harm is caused to any buildings,” he said.
