Udupi, Jul 6: District Commissioner Kurmarao M. has appealed to the Chief Secretary of the State Government to provide a team from the State Disaster Management Force (SDRF) to effectively manage the natural calamity situation caused by continuous rainfall in the district.

Presiding over a virtual meeting on disaster management measures in light of the ongoing rains, the DC emphasized the importance of all district officers being available at the headquarters and easily reachable in any situation. He urged all departments to work together as a cohesive team to ensure public safety. The DC suggested that all task force teams established for disaster management, including those at the ward and village taluk levels, should be proactive in their efforts.

In order to protect the affected public, the DC instructed the relocation of people to safe areas. The Tahsildars were directed to make necessary arrangements for those seeking shelter at care centers and provide them with essential supplies when they return home.

The DC also stressed the need to seek assistance from the Coast Guard, Apada Mitra, Fishermen, and Home Guards to safeguard individuals stranded in waterlogged areas. The Fire and Emergency Services Department was instructed to utilize boats and kayaking boats from the Fisheries Department if required. Cooperation from voluntary organizations and local representatives was also encouraged.

Immediate distribution of emergency relief to those affected by the calamity was deemed essential by the DC. Precautionary measures were advised for low-lying areas that were previously impacted during the monsoon season, considering the possibility of flooding.
