Mangaluru, Jul 8: District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao held a meeting on Friday night at the command control room of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) with officials and district administration with regards to the precautionary measures taken to manage the disasters that are occurring due to incessant rains in the district.

Gundu Rao said, “Necessary precautionary measures need to be taken for the calamities that might arise in low lying areas and banks of ponds and rivers during monsoon. Fishermen need to be given necessary instructions not to venture into the sea. Officials should remain in the central station and take disaster management actions without fail. Officials are directly responsible for any shortcomings and necessary actions will be taken on them.

“Nodal officers have to be deputed to areas which are prone to disaster during monsoon. Their supervision needs to be done. Telephone lines for emergencies should be available all the time. Holidays should be declared to schools and colleges considering the situation,” he said.

Harish Kumar, deputy commissioner Mullai Mugilan, city police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain, MCC commissioner Anand C L, zilla panchayat CEO Dr Anand K and SP C B Ryshyanth were present.
