Bengaluru, Jul 9: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has promised stern action against the culprits responsible for the dastardly murder of Belagavi's Jain Muni, Sri Kamakumar Nandi Maharaj, and stated that the police will conduct a swift investigation into the incident.
Speaking to media persons in Bengaluru on Sunday, he strongly condemned the murder of the Jain Muni and declared that the State Government will not tolerate such barbaric acts.
"A thorough investigation and strict action in accordance with the law will be taken," he assured. He also appealed to the people and followers of the Jain Muni to maintain peace and not to be unnecessarily provoked.
"Action will be taken against those instigating people to take the law into their own hands by misusing the incident," he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister stated that he has learned that Varoor Sri Gunadhar Nandi Maharaj of Hubballi has decided to launch a fast demanding safety and protection for all Swamijis. He assured that the government will take necessary action to provide security and emphasized that there is no need for protests or fasting.
"I attempted to contact the Swamiji but was unsuccessful. I will ask the local legislators and ministers to take necessary steps to maintain law and order," he added.
Surprise visits to Indira Canteens, solid waste treatment units
Earlier in the morning, the Deputy Chief Minister made surprise visits to Indira Canteens and Solid Waste Treatment Units in different parts of the city without informing the officers.
Shivakumar expressed his dissatisfaction with the functioning of the Solid Waste Treatment Units and mentioned that there were issues in the operation of Indira Canteens.
"I will take steps to ensure that all units function properly," he stated, noting that the proposals for generating energy from waste have not yielded the desired results.
