Lucknow, July 27 (IANS) In a second incident of its kind in less than a week, a police constable died and 10 others were hospitalised Wednesday after falling unconscious during a physical test for departmental promotion in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district, officials said.

Ali Suzma, aged around 35 years, fainted along with the 10 colleagues during a 10-km run organised in the police lines. Suzma later died at a hospital.

"Of the 10, three have been referred to Varanasi as their condition is stated to be serious," Senior Superintendent of Police Bhagwan Swaroop told reporters in Azamgarh, some 200 km from Lucknow.

According to officials, the 10-km run is meant for promotion of constables to sub-inspectors.
