Udupi, Jul 11: Several tipplers staged a protest in the city on Tuesday July 11, demanding the state government to provide free alcohol.

NIthyananda Volakadu, a social worker said, "Many daily wagers are used to drinking alcohol. They are urging the government to provide free liquor as they work for the whole day and drink alcohol to bear all the pain they have in their body. They are demanding to either provide free liquor or ban its sale totally.”

The protesters stated that when the price of cooking gas and electricity are increased, people protest against it but no one protests when the price of alcohol is hiked. They demanded to reduce the price of alcohol which was stated in the budget or to provide free alcohol.
