Mangaluru, Jul 11: A shop was gutted due to lightning strike here at Ranipura here causing huge loss. The fire spread to a house next to the shop in the building. Fire brigade personnel, who rushed to the spot, doused the fire.

The incident took place in the morning on Tuesday July 11 when Peter was asleep with his wife and son. A person passing by on the road who saw the lightning strike informed them. Peter woke up immediately and alerted the fire brigade. Groceries worth several lacs were gutted in the fire. Three refrigerators and electronic equipment were destroyed in the mishap. Cracks developed on the wall of the shop and the house.

Munnoor gram panchayat president Wilfred D’Souza, former vice president Navin D’Souza, revenue inspector, village accountant and panchayat development officer visited the spot and conducted inspection.
