Mangaluru, Jul 11: "In the future, young girls should come to a good position in the administration", said deputy commissioner (DC) Mullai Mugilan.

He was speaking during the World Population Day celebration organized by the district administration, zilla panchayat, and other government authorities here in Ravindra Kalabhavan on Tuesday July 11. The theme of World Population Day is ‘Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world's infinite possibilities’.

The DC further said, "China had introduced family planning forcefully in their country. It was a top-down decision taken without understanding the merits and demerits. The same thing took place in India during 1970 and 1980. Family planning should be implemented as a choice. It should not be implemented forcefully. For happiness and prosperity, family planning is important," he said.

He called upon the youth to understand the importance of family planning and create awareness among the common public in this regard.

Several doctors, nurses and ASHA health workers were felicitated.

Dr Durga Prasad M B also addressed the gathering.

Dr Deepa Prabhu welcomed the dignitaries.

District health officer Dr Kishore Kumar, principal Dr Anusiya Rai, Dr Sujay, probationary IAS officer Mukul Jain, and others were present.
