Bengaluru, Jul 12: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala and other senior Congress leaders staged a silent protest at the Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Wednesday against the ruling BJP conspiracy to unseat former Congress President Rahul Gandhi from parliament and silence his voice.
AICC Secretaries Rosy John, Mayur Jaikumar, KPCC Working President Saleem Ahmed, Ministers B Ramalinga Reddy, N S Bose Raju and legislators other leaders participated in the silent protest by wearing black badges.
The protest led by the ruling KPCC and other party leaders carried placards condemning BJP and down with anti-democracy BJP. The BJP rule cannot silence Rahul Gandhi.
In his message to the party workers, Shivakumar said the BJP and Modi government have been relentlessly targeting the Gandhi family since the last 9 years. BJP leaders have been abusing the Gandhi family with impunity but Rahul Gandhi is being sought to be punished for his election speech. His Lok Sabha membership has been taken away, he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the Congress rank and file must rise in protest against the BJP in the State and the country.
“Ousting BJP from power in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls is the only answer to restore democracy and uphold constitutional values,’’ he said.
Shivakumar said the BJP is worried over the growing popularity of Rahul Gandhi after his Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and also his fearlessly despite all the legal hurdles.
“We believe in democracy and constitution and will fight BJP with all our strength,’’ he declared.
