Mangalore, Jul 27: DK district working journalists’ union and Mangalore Press Club celebrated ‘Vanamahotsava’ at Kadri park here on Wednesday July 27.
After planting saplings in the park, Dr K N Vijayprakash said that by organising ‘Vanamahotsava’ the journalists of DK district have done a commendable job.
Even though Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) had demolished many trees during the road widening work in city corporation limit, 20,000 new saplings were planted. This year again 22000 new saplings will be planted and it will be completed within one month time, he said. He stressed that Mangalore should be a green and clean city.
Speaking on the occasion Clifford D’Souza said that the department has already planted 18000 new saplings on seashores. In Kadri park 200 decorative saplings like Gul Mohar, lavancha grass among others will be planted, he said.
On Wednesday, DKWJU and Mangalore Press Club office bearers and members planted 20 saplings.
Zilla Panchayath CEO Dr K N Vijay Prakash, Mangalore zonal forest officer Clifford Lobo, Madhu S M, environmental engineer in MCC, DKWJU president P B Harish Rai, chief secretary Shreenivas Nayak Indaje among others were present.
