Mangaluru: Fatal accident caused by pothole - NHAI staff to be served notice by police

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Jul 19: In the wake of a tragic accident that claimed the life of a two-wheeler rider Titus Ferrao on National Highway 66 in Baikampady on Tuesday, Mangaluru Police are set to issue a notice to the staff of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The rider lost control of the bike and met with the accident while trying to avoid potholes on the road.

Reportedly, the police department's action comes in response to previous court orders concerning the responsibilities of various agencies.

The incident has stirred public anger against the National Highway Authority, as there have been complaints about numerous potholes on the road.

The police commissioner has announced plans to serve notice to the relevant authority responsible for the upkeep of the National Highway.

Potholes have become a common sight both in the city and on the National Highway, posing challenges for two-wheeler riders, especially during the rainy season.

Potholes are natures ways of popping up due to poor quality engineering and use of inferior quality material and of course the rain that is destructive plus a boon. There are authorities and agencies, all over India, who collect money for roads and maintenance of all roads from every motorist and public transport vehicles in the form of a tax named TOLL! This tax runs into millions of Rupees income every year all over India. Fact of the matter is, like every other authority in India, Corruption and Negligence is a direct cause of accidents and deaths every year, hardly admitted by the local CM or the PM who simply talk a lot without even walking the talk!

Instead of notice, money should be asked from NHAI as compensation. They have many such notices every year, nothing happens.

The NHAI officials seem to be in a state of deep slumber, indulging in corruption and displaying an attitude of reluctance towards fulfilling their responsibilities for their salaries. It is essential to link their annual appraisals to their performance, taking into account feedback from motorists on a yearly basis

Nothing is going to change....it will be same story... only contractors will make money. Police should prosecute NHAI Engineers and contractors and make them to pay the compensation to the victims.
