Mangaluru: No salaries since March to part-time lecturers of polytechnic, engineering colleges

Mangaluru, Jul 20: Around 1250 part-time lecturers of government polytechnic and engineering colleges of Karnataka are not paid salaries since March this year. In addition, they are also facing threat to their employment. This information was shared by Prashant, president of All Karnataka government Polytechnic Part-Time Lecturers’ Association.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Prashant, said, “Part-time lecturers are paid just Rs 12500 if they teach 10 to 12 hours per week with a minimum of 36 hours per month. Even this meagre amount is not paid since last March. The part-time lecturers are also made to bear the load of permanent lecturers. In the past 14 years, part-time lecturers of degree colleges have three times salary increment, whereas those teaching in technical colleges have got salary increment only once.”

Prashant said that an appeal is sent to the concerned minister of the new government to increase monthly salary to Rs 25000, provide job security, PF, ESI, leave facility, maternity leave, salary and leave facility to get higher education, ID card and service certificate facilities.
