Mangaluru: Three drug peddlers arrested; MDMA, pistol, other items seized

Mangaluru, Jul 21: Three drug peddlers were arrested by Mangaluru city crime branch police. MDMA, pistol and many other items were seized from them. 

The arrested are identified as Mohammed Niyas (28) from Farangipete, presently residing at Krishnapura Surathkal, Nishad (31) from Talapady, and Mohammed Razin (24) from Padil Kannur. They were transporting MDMA in two cars near Pilikuru.

As much as 180 gram MDMA worth Rs 9,00,000, 2 cars, 4 mobile phones worth Rs 1,40,000, Rs 22,050 cash, one pistol, live bullet, a dragon knife and two digital weighing machines, total worth Rs 27,62,000 were seized. A case is filed at Ullal police station.

The trio had bought MDMA from Goa and Mumbai and were trying to supply here.

Among the accused, Niyas was accused for assaulting Urwa police station sub inspector and assaulting a personnel of Konaje police station. Ten cases of NDPS, murder attempt and theft in Udupi and different police stations in Dakshina Kannada are filed against Niyas. He was absconding after being granted bail from court. A warrant was issued against him.

Mohammed Razin has NDPS case at Kankanady police station.

The raid was led by CCB ACP P A Hegde, police inspector Shyam Sundar, SI Rajendra, Sudeep, Sharanappa, Narendra and others.

Speaking on drug laced chocolates case, police commissioner Kuldeep Jain said, “We have filed adulteration case against the offenders section of the IPC 274 and 276. We are waiting for the FSL report for further course of action under NDPS. The police are keeping an eye on peddlers and consumers to make the city drug-free. Preventive detention of drug peddlers will be undertaken as well who include those involved in repeated crimes in the city. Activities of rowdy-sheeters are being observed. Sixty people have been deported this year and notice have been issued for deportation for three people for repeatedly involving in crime.”

The police commissioner also said that 100 places have been identified with potholes within Mangaluru city police commissionerate with evidence and all agencies such as Mangaluru City Corporation, Public Works Department and National Highway Authority of India have been informed to take necessary action.
