Mangaluru/Udupi: Heavy rains cause widespread destruction in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 23: The monsoon has once again intensified in the coastal region, bringing heavy rains accompanied by high-velocity winds throughout the day and night in both districts.

In Mangaluru, more than 13 houses were damaged when a massive tree was uprooted on the campus of the zilla panchayat in Kottara. A man sustained a head injury during the incident. Several trees were uprooted in Daddalkad, Urwastore, and Pakkaladka.

In Bantwal, a huge tree fell on the road near Neralekatte on the Mani-Puttur road, disrupting traffic on the highway. Another tree fell on the road at Loretto Padavu. In Maladi village, the wall of a house collapsed at Mundadi Janata Colony, and at Thokkottu, a huge flex fell on the road affecting vehicular traffic.

The bathing ghat at Kumardhara is completely submerged in water, prompting the deployment of guards on the river bank to prevent any untoward incidents.

In Dakshina Kannada district, heavy rains resulted in damage to 118 electricity poles and seven transformers.

In Udupi, the house of Manohar Rao and Girija partially collapsed at Alevoor. Additionally, the wall of Kamala Poojari's house collapsed at Moodanidamboor. Houses also collapsed in Kaup Innanje, Palimaru, Tenka, Kurkalu, and Belle, with estimated losses totaling Rs 2 lac.

In Kundapur, a huge tree fell on the house of Sheena Devadiga in Asodu village. Other trees fell on the houses of Muthu Mogerti in Karkunje village, Gopi in Shiroor, Sadhu in Herur, and Anita in Kambadakone.

Furthermore, a massive mango tree fell on the Katapadi-Shirva state highway near the weekly market area, leading to traffic disruption. Two bikes were damaged, and one person was injured in the incident.

    Mother nature has been heavily tempered with for the development and expansion of cities. Hills are flattened to acquire land to erect skyscrapers and forests are chopped forming purpose. Greenhouse effect and changing weather pattern has been affecting nature and humanity. Part of Europe and Western parts of America is experiencing heat waves crossing 40-degree Celsius and East Asia is going down pour and flooding. What would be as timepasses, say after some decades?😩

    Not to worry.....we have very capable MLAs, MP's to restore everything.... with the help of Vishwaguru..... Karmayogi.....keep bhajaoing ghantiyan aur thaliyan and listen to the daily crap. Nature will do its job in its own terms and time for all the destruction that has been carried on by human greed.
