Bantwal, Jul 23: Amid the incessant heavy rains over the past two days, a pick-up vehicle found itself stuck in a submerged bridge at Kanthukodi in Kedila village. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 23, but thanks to the prompt action of local residents, a potential disaster was averted.

A bridge connecting Kanthukodi to Padil through Kedila village Beatige Milk Society has been completely submerged due to the continuous downpour in the region.

Despite the rising water levels, a pick-up driver attempted to cross the bridge, resulting in the vehicle getting stuck in the middle. Fortunately, the locals acted swiftly and managed to rescue the driver using a rope as the water level continued to rise rapidly. The pick-up vehicle was reportedly traveling from Padil to Kedila.

The bridge here sinks every year!

This particular bridge faces the same issue every year during the rainy season, becoming submerged and causing inconvenience to the public. The gram panchayat arranges for JCB cleaning under the bridge annually, but it fails to prevent the bridge from inundating during heavy rains.

The local community is now urging relevant authorities, including MLAs, to address the recurring problem and find a viable solution.
