Mangaluru, Jul 23: A passenger caught a city bus driver using a mobile phone while driving between State Bank Thalapady and now it has gone viral. The public sector has demanded action against the driver.

The driver of St Anthony bus number 42 drove the bus negligently. The video captured the driver running the bus irresponsibly while holding the steering wheel in one hand and the mobile phone in the other till he stopped from Netravathi bridge.

A passenger shared on social media that there were more passengers in the bus. "A driver looking at the mobile rather than the road is inviting disaster," the paaenger has expressed concern. The public demanded that the transport authorities should cancel the bus permit and the traffic police should take action against the driver.

"A case IMV Act 117 will be registered against the city bus driver under the Motor Act. Under the current Act, the license will be revoked and fines will be imposed. In the wake of the video going viral in the public, the department will voluntarily file a case," said inspector Ramesh Hanapura, Mangaluru south traffic police station.

Action has been initiated against the erring bus driver by south traffic police station. His driver’s license would be sent for cancellation to the RTO, informed police sources.

This is common disease.Even there is a rule not to look into mobile during driving fast everyone is doing this.Govt must make a rule that they should give up their usual private mobile at work place and give them another mobile only to use during work,Like doctors use piepsa to connect to head office or call emergency number.Otherwise private calls from friends home etc will make their mind diverting.

Mobile phone has become necessity nowadays. Hence bus driver should be allowed to use basic (non-smart) phone similar to Nokia 3310/5110 for emergency calls only.

No one can stop this till the RTA and Police department is under the bus owners association. The police department is in existence because of this association. They have to provide dress, boots, raincoats etc. to the bus association instead by the Govt.

One can set right anything in this world, except Mangalore city and service bus drivers. Overspeed , accidents, unnecessarily making horn, now watching Mobile while driving. It's the responsibility of the Traffic Police to punish those drivers as well as their owners.

Irresponsible drivers. They carry so many passengers in their bus and in addition to this road traffic is heavy. Pedestriians walk on roads. if any mishap happens so many have to suffer.

one thing can be noted, photographer must be waiting from long time for this particular driver/bus for some reason, if he had guts he could have taken photos of all the buses dailey for the awarance ,I believe he is him self a culprit but not hero, to take advantage of law.
