'PM Modi has shown how weak he is': Jairam compares Modi to Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Jul 25 (IANS): Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Monday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on Manipur violence and clean chit to China, saying he has shown how weak a Prime Minister he is.

He also parallels between Modi and his predecessor Manmohan Singh.

In a tweet, Ramesh, who is the Congress communication in charge, said: "Dr. Manmohan Singh in his last press conference as PM in January 2014 said, 'I do not believe that I have been a weak PM… history will be kinder to me'. With his silence and inaction for 81 days on Manipur, and his clean chit to China on June 19, 2020, Modi has shown how weak a Prime Minister he is."

The Congress.leader also attached a photograph comparing how Manmohan Singh, after the horrific 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case, addressed media in his last press conference saying he addressed the nation keeping his eyes down and said that people's anger is justified. On the other hand, in the photograph a comparison was made with Modi saying spoke for only 36 seconds after 78 days of Manipur horror and equating the northeastern state with Rajastan, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal.

The Congress has been demanding a detailed statement from the Prime Minister on Manipur violence.

    Rape and killing become new normal. What is happening is in opposition ruled states, largely guys who are caught are usually associated with fanatic religious organization and caught immediately. In BJP ruled state, FIR itself is not happening as govt wants to keep the numbers low and second, evenif FIRs are lodged under social media pressure or so, it is the victim, who will have to go through horrowing process, which largely means no justice. In the midest of all it is women who suffers the most. What is the biggest irony is there are ladies, in influential positions, who ignore these horrific crimes for some petty political gains. Those tears of helpless victims, will one day be answered, for sure.

    Somebody writes his speeches. He can only practice before mirror and speak. He exploits the religious emotions of Hindu people using Ram and other Gods. He does not know administration.

    Dinesh . you say anything to anybody in India That is greatness of our country. But you cant speak single word against Dubai leaders or anybody.manipur incident is shocking it should be stopped,This issue is not started now is there from 1947 also

    @rajesh, Udupi, We are are a democratic country and freedom of speech is the fundamental right given by the constitution to every citizens. This is the only reason why all politicians, Tom, Dick and Harry keep barking all nonsense day and night just to grab and stay in power. These fake propaganda and nonsense speeches led to the situation in Manipur today. Why you are bringing Dubai leaders here in the picture and on what grounds you are comparing them. Just in a matter of 25 to 30 years where they have taken Dubai in the world map. Just lecturing from the podiums with thousands armed security guards around for hours and hours doesn't make the difference in the ground situation. Millions of our population still goes to sleep with hungry stomachs and only kombanas just listening to this speeches. Go to Northern interiors of Karnataka and the country to know the reality.
