Puttur, Jul 25: Cracks appeared in a wall at Ariadka government school following incessant rains. As there was no alternative room, classes were held in the auditorium itself.

The Ariadka school, which is a century old, has students studying from grade one to seven. The walls are cracked and the roof is about to fall. The incident occurred on Sunday and came to light on Monday, when the students reported to school.

Some parents have not sent their children to school fearing collapse of other part of the building also.

MLA Ashok Kumar Rai visited the school and inspected. The matter was brought to the notice of the block education officer. The dilapidated state of the structure was brought to the notice of the authorities long ago. However, grant was released only to repair the roof. Hence, the same was done according to SDMC president Hanif.

Governments do not look at facelift of govt schools, appoint teachers who are not up to the mark and criteria for selection is not on merits. Our children from poor families go to school only due to free food. Government schemes are to get votes and not in real spirit to uplift the poor.
