Udupi, Jul 25: MLA Yashpal Suvarna reacted to the incident of video of girl students of different community made by girl students of another community made in a private college and said that legal action needs to be initiated against the offenders.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday July 25, he said, “I was in the assembly session when the incident occurred. Suitable legal action needs to be initiated against the erring girl students.
“Udupi district has reached great heights in the education sector. It is the district that respects women. Due to the behaviour of these three girl students, the people of this district are ashamed. It is not right to play pranks of this nature. I doubt the presence of unseen hands behind this.
“It is not right to keep cameras in the washroom. This may be a blackmailing tactic. I will urge for suitable action against the three offenders. I will bring this to the notice of the chief minister and home minister.
“I will ask the officials to verify the mobile phone records and take proper action. I am confident that the police department of the district will act against this incident. If things are delayed, we will fight for justice.
“The motive of the Muslim girl students is causing suspicion. I doubt the work of Jihadi organizations behind this act. I will visit the college and speak to the administration.
“I do not know if there is a video clipping or not. But suitable action needs to be taken against this incident,” he said.
With regards to harassment of Rashmi Samant, who tweeted on the video matter, the MLA said, “The police went to her house and inquired. If patriotic people are harassed, it cannot be tolerated. I will meet the family of Rashmi Samant. I will speak to the home minister too. Due to these incidents, educational institutions get a bad name. The police department should register a suo moto case.”
