Holiday continues for schools, PU colleges in DK, Udupi on July 26

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 25: The respective district administrations of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have ordered the continuation of holiday for the schools and colleges of the twin districts on Wednesday, July 26 in wake of the heavy downpour that is continuing to lash these areas.

Deputy commissioners Mullai Mugilan and Dr K Vidyakumari of DK and Udup districts, in concurrence with the District Disaster Management Authority, has declared holiday for all Anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary, high schools and pre-university colleges on Wednesday.

However, the degree .post graduate, engineering and ITI colleges may conducted the classes as usual. The DK district administration of has instructed the degree colleges to conduct online classes for the students living in rural areas or at a long distance from the institutions and are unable to travel due to the inclement weather.

The Udupi district administration has instructed the degree colleges not to make attendance compulsory for the students considering the situation and also to ensure the safety of their students travelling to the institutions. Those students whose have to commute via tough routes or low lying areas have beenn asked to stay safe at their homes.

For the educational institutions on holiday, the managements have been asked to conduct additional classes on weekends to make up for the loss due to rains. The schools and colleges have also been asked to enlighten the students regarding the precautuionary or safety measures to be followed  in the event of natural disasters.         

Parents are asked to ensure that children do not go to low lying areas, lakes, sea shore and river sides. The fishermen too have been warned aginst venturing into water. Taluk level officers have been asked to remain at the headquarters compulsorily. Nodal officers appointed for various positions by the district administration have been asked to be alert and respond to public complaints. The tahsildar have been directed to be in constant contact.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea. District and taluk level officials are asked to be in their central office and follow disaster management mandatorily. Nodal officers nominated by the district administration should be alert 24x7 and respond to public grievances immediately and be in touch with control room of DC office. Tourists are advised not to go to river banks and sea beaches. Concerned department officials are instructed to open grievance centres in every taluk and be ready to deal with any situation.

The department officers concerned have been directed to open rescue centres at the taluk level and keep them ready. The emergency service is available 24x 7 via toll free control room number 1077, telephone numbers 0824-2442590 (DK), 0820-2574802 (Udupi). 

A warning has been issued to the residents, tourists against visiting beaches, rivers, and waterfalls or attempting to take photos and videos in these areas.
