Mangaluru: Absconding chain snatching accused arrested after 23 years

Mangaluru, Jul 27: An accused in a case related to chain snatching, who was absconding for 23 years, was arrested by the police on Wednesday July 26.

Basheer (51), resident of Durga Quarters, Akala, Ullal, is the accused who was apprehended by the police.

A case was filed on Basheer, Hussain and Moideen Kudroli accusing the trio of snatching the Kariyamani of a woman at around 8.45 pm on December 17, 2000 at knife point and escaping from the spot. A complaint was filed in Urwa police station.

Hussain and Moideen were arrested within a few days of the crime. However, Basheer was absconding. The court took out an arrest warrant against him. However, Basheer neither attended court nor surrendered to police station.

Police produced accused Basheer in court.
