Udupi: Wild bison enters verandah of house near Shirva

Udupi, Jul 30: A wild bison was spotted on the verandah of the house belonging to Ravi Kulal at Pergottu of Pilaru Kunjigudde near Shirva on Saturday early in the morning.

The bison went around the house and also went near the well and returned to the forest. Though there is a barbed wire fence around the Pilarukana reserve forest, sometimes a herd of wild bisons enter various farm lands and destroy the crops.

The herd of bisons consists of seven or eight of them and they enter the farm lands at Sooda, Pilaru, Majalabettu, Mittabeetu, Kudrebettu and Gundupade areas on the edge of the reserve forest. Large areas of paddy fields, vegetable farms, plantain and arecanut are destroyed by the herd.

    The residents of Shirva should feel proud that a bison has felt safe to enter someone's premises rhere is safe for it. It is really a Safety Certificate issued by the wild animals.

    Rita, Wild Bison is cousin of Buffalos used to till the fields....most of farmers of Belman used to have Buffaloes in their households....You must have drank their milk while in Belman....99% they resemble Buffalos we raise in our homes....relax don't get upset...they are looking for food,,,they are harmless unless you provoke them....Tak...Takk...

    Langooji Belman ,you need not explain me about Buffelos or Bisons.Both I have seen ,Buffelos milk also consumed.Bisons are coming and searching food /green in Bantwal area by our relations.They are more wild.So we have to avoid confrontations.

    Its new that Bisons are in Pilarkan forest.No more tigers there now?Previously we used to go through pilarkan forest walking only after 8 o clock.Sometimes when bus was passing through some tigers were lying on road.Bus had to wait.But its long time now .Bisons must have come to look if any vegetables available?
