Bengaluru, Jul 30: Yellow alert has been declared for coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada from July 31 to August 3 as there are chances of heavy rainfall.

The India Metereological Department said that 6 cm to 11 cm rainfall might occur during this period. Yellow alert has also been declared for Malnad districts of Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Hassan districts for August 3.

South Interior and north interior districts will also get moderate rainfall for next one week. For the 24 hour period that ended on 8.30 am of Saturday, Subramanya received 5 cm, Kollur 4 cm, Gerusoppa, Karkala, Beltangady, Dharmasthala, Shringeri, Udupi, Linganamakki, Uppinangady, Puttur, Kundapura, Kota and Manki received rainfall of three cm each.

Though there were two days of holidays, the number of people visiting beaches of coastal region has reduced considerably. Officials are not allowing to view the waterfalls also. As tourists are not allowed to get into the sea due to rainy season, the number of visitors from outstation districts has reduced considerably.

Jog Falls, Unchalli, Vibuti, Sathoddi, Shirale, Magodi, Hanumanalari and Nagaramadi Falls are in Malnad and coastal region. Due to the rainfall of past week rainwater at falls is gushing downwards with great force. However, district administration has prohibited the viewing for public for safety reasons.

In 2017, six tourists from Goa had got down to Nagaramadi Falls of Karwar and got washed away due to the water current.

More than 80 visitors arrived at Shirale Falls on Saturday. But no one was allowed to go near the Falls. Similarly, tourists who arrived at Magoda and Sathoddi also had to go back without watching the falls. Last year four people died in Shirale Falls.
