Mangaluru: Konkani Natak Sabha's 59th elders singing competition captivates audiences

Mangaluru, July 31: The 59th edition of the Konkani Natak Sabha's (KNS) singing competition for elders took place on Sunday, July 30, from 2 pm at the Don Bosco Hall in Mangaluru as part of the annual competitions.
 
The event commenced with the KNS Anthem, and Liston D'Souza, vice-president of KNS, extending a warm welcome to the participants and attendees.
 
Dr Rocky D'Cunha, president of KNS, delivered an encouraging message to the competitors, wishing them the best of luck. Santhosh Sequeira, philanthropist and well-wisher of KNS was the chief guest for the event.
 










































 
The competition was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Liston D'Souza, KNS vice-president, Cletus Lobo, assistant secretary, Gerald Concessao, treasurer, Joseph Theodore, and Gladys Pereira singing competition convenors, accompanied by president Dr Rocky D'Cunha and Santhosh Sequeira Kankannady.
 
A total of 164 entries from 8 different categories with 250 plus participants from various age groups, ranging from 15 to 45 years, and above 45 years showcased their singing talents in solo, duet, mixed group and married couple categories.
 
The competition received valuable support from KNS manager Boniface Pinto, former vice-president of KNS, Sunil Menezes and assistance from KNS managing committee members and unit members from Urwa, Cascia, Milagres, and Rosario.
 
Renowned musicians Julian Alwyn Dcunha from Derebail and John M Permannur served as the esteemed judges for the competition.
 
Cletus Lobo compered the programme. Joseph Theodore Introduced the judges and Floyd D'Mello concluded with a vote of thanks.
 
The second round of the 59th KNS singing competition for both children and Elders will be held on August 20 from 9.30 am at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru. The second round will be a television round which will be telecasted on Daijiworld 24×7 Television in the coming days episode-wise.

Between the programme at 4 pm, a condolence meeting was held for departed soul of veteran composer, singer, dramatist and active KNS members Konkan Kalashree Claud D'Souza Bendur who passed away on Monday, July 24. 
 
General Secretary of KNS Floyd Dmello gave the details of achievements of Late Claud D'Souza in the field of Konkani drama and music, and his service to Konkani Natak Sabha during the last 45 years.
 
KNS President Dr Rocky D'cunha OFM Cap offered a condolence prayer and also prayed for the bereaved family members of Late Claud D'Souza.
 
Konkani singer, composer and a close associate and Band Cosmic Rays teammate of Claud D'Souza, Alwyn Noronha Bajpe offered condolence on behalf of KNS and the entire Konkani community. 
 
A floral tribute was also offered by president, vice-president, KNS executive committee members, KNS managing committee members and others.
 
Late Claud D'Souza's wife Marie D'Souza, daughters Moushmi / Praveen, Melissa / Abhijit, grandchildren Sinon, Samaira and Sion, Claud's family members, members of Band Cosmic Rays, members of United Youngsters along with Vishwas Rebimbus and Charleen Rebimbus, Bendur Matt Commitee members and members of KNS Bendur unit of which Claud D'Souza was part of and members of Karavali Konkans were present for the condolence meet. 
 
Vice-president Liston D'Souza thanked family members of Claud D'Souza  and others for being present for the condolence meet.
