Mangalore: Karnataka Coast Drenches in Copious Rains

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Aug 3: Due to heavy rains all across the coast of the state since Monday evening, almost all the rivers and rivulets are flowing to the brim. Low-lying areas have been inundated. However, no flood-like situation or rivers crossing the danger mark have been reported from anywhere.

Blocked drains and fallen trees which affected the traffic have become a common phenomenon. Collapsed compounds and walls of a few houses have also been reported. In several places, labourers working on daily wage were forced to take off for the day because of heavy rains. However, lightning, thunder or strong winds did not accompany the rains. In several places including B C Road, rain water flowed on the national highway because of haphazard execution of ongoing highway widening work.

Agumbe recorded the highest rain of 11 cms, while the coastal regions received between six to ten cms of rain. The meteorological department has renewed its warning to fishermen not to enter the sea as it expects speeding gale to sweep the ocean surface during the next 24 hours.
