New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS) A day after a Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) head constable was shot at by chain snatchers, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg Wednesday hinted at a possibility of arming the city's traffic personnel.
"We can think about arming them with small weapons if the need arises. But we have to look at the availability and functional requirement," Garg told reporters here.
Head Constable Mahesh Kumar was Tuesday shot at by two motorcycle borne chain snatchers in west Delhi' Raja Garden who had jumped a red light.
One of the accused Sunil, 35 was overpowered and arrested by Kumar while the other Jitender managed to escape on the motorcycle.
"Delhi Traffic Police is doing traffic management on the roads of Delhi. From time to time Traffic Police officials show exceptional bravery in apprehending desperate criminals," said Garg.
"His (Kumar) name has been recommended for 'Out of Turn Promotion' for his gallant act," he added.
