Udupi, Aug 7: “It is necessary to give necessary injections to pregnant women and children below the age of five within the specified time frame so that future generation may be healthy,” said chairman of Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes K Jayaprakash Hegde.
He was speaking after inaugurating the effective mission Indra Dhanush 5 campaign at Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdulla Mother and Child Hospital here on Monday, August 7.
“It is the responsibility of parents to get all the necessary injections within the specified period for their children's healthy growth so that they may not be affected by any sicknesses. The undivided Dakshina Kannada district has achieved substantial growth in the health sector. There are excellent medical facilities, doctors and nursing staff here. There are allegations against it for somebody else’s mistakes,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari said that the injections being administered to children and mothers under the Indra Dhanush campaign will increase immunity and prevent illnesses. “It is the responsibility of everybody to ensure that none get deprived of the injections in the campaign,” she said.
Municipal councillor Manasa Pai, district surgeon Dr Sudesh Kumar and women and child hospital administrative doctor Dr Rajagopal Bhandary were present.
District health and family welfare officer Dr Nagabhooshan Udupa welcomed. District RCH officer Dr M G Rama compered the programme. Rotary club president Deepa Bhandary rendered the vote of thanks.
The Indra Dhanush injections programmes have been planned in three stages between August 7 and October 14. The injections are intended to be administered to 708 pregnant women, 3188 children below two years and 16 children between the age of 2-5 years. As many as 294 centres will be opened for the purpose.
