Infant drowns in rain water accumulated at house in Bihar's Purnea

Patna, Aug 8 (IANS): In a tragic incident, a five-month-old infant drowned in rain water accumulated in her house in Bihar's Purnea on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred in a housing colony under K-Haat police station in Purnea when her mother, who went out to work, left the sleeping daughter alone on bed and the child fell in the water inside the room.

In the last few days, heavy rain has been continuously taking place in the Seemanchal region and water logging has taken place in several localities of Purnea, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar etc.

"After feeding milk to the girl, her mother put her on the bed and went to another house for work. When she returned home, she found the baby floating in the water which accumulated in the house since rain started here in Purnea. I had to the fields for farming," the victim's maternal grandmother Geeta Devi said.

Following the incident, people in the housing colony expressed their ire at the municipal corporation which has failed to deal with the water logging.
