Udupi: Court slaps 3-yr jail term, fines accused for outraging woman's modesty

Udupi, Aug 9: The Udupi First Additional CJ and JMFC court judge Shyam Prakash has sentenced the accused Balakrishna, a resident of Puttur village to three years of imprisonment and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman.

Udupi Bykady village resident Gopala is another accused person. The accused Balakrishna was employed at Manipal Doordarshan office. He had clicked a video of his female colleague when she was in a compromising position with her male colleague.

Balakrishna had forwarded the video to Gopala and both of them had been demanding sexual favours from the female colleague. Gopala had shown the video in public when she rejected his demand for sex from the accused.

The two accused waylaid the woman near the well of her residence on January 4, 2014, sexually assaulted her, hurled expletives at her and threatened that they will show the video to the villagers if she does not consent for sex.

The guilt of the accused was proved by inquest, statement of the witnesses and investigations. Out of the two accused, the first accused Gopala had deceased. A case under crime sections 341, 354, 354 ( c), 354 (d), 504 and 34 was registered against second accused Balakrishna.

Malpe station PSI Girish Kumar S had conducted investigations and submitted a charge sheet to the court.

The first additional CJ and JMFC court judge Shyam Prakash sentenced Balakrishna to three years of imprisonment and ordered him to pay Rs 10,000 as fine.
