Kerala mulls fresh law to curb content misuse on YouTube channels

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 10 (IANS): Even while announcing that a special designated nodal officer has been appointed to see that defamatory and inflammatory content on YouTube channels is blocked, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday informed the state Assembly that since it is a serious issue, it's necessary to see on how this can be curbed through a new law.

Vijayan said this on the floor of House to a question raised by treasury bench legislator P. V. Anwar.

"The State IT secretary is the nodal officer who has been appointed to check complaints about the content of YouTube," said Vijayan.

"The nodal officer, based on directions from the court, can also recommend to the concerned officer to block such content," the chief minister said.

Of late, there has been a huge spurt in YouTube channels in Kerala which air content on numerous topics and at times, it has turned for the worse too.

Anwar is having a long-running feud with a popular YouTube channel presenter here.
