Mangaluru, Aug 10: The solemnity of the St Lawrence Feast was celebrated with utmost devotion and fervor in Bondel, where Dr. Henry D'Souza, Bishop of Bellary Diocese, presided over the Holy Eucharist. The celebration marked a significant moment as pilgrims and devotees of St Lawrence congregated at the shrine to partake in the grand festivities.

The theme of this year's feast, "Through the intercession of St Lawrence, let us make our lives fruitful," resonated throughout the event. The bishop commenced the celebration by emphasizing the importance of family life as a divine gift, urging all to embrace it as an invaluable grace.

The Holy Mass was adorned with Bishop Henry D'Souza's insightful homily on the concept of a "cheerful giver," inspired by 2 Corinthians 9:7. He illuminated the idea that genuine acts of giving stem from a joyful heart and the right intentions, emphasizing the significance of maintaining a harmonious relationship with God. Bishop D'Souza also highlighted the teachings of Pope Francis, advocating for the simple yet powerful practice of expressing gratitude, seeking pardon, and offering kindness in family relationships.

Addressing the congregation, Fr Andrew Leo D'Souza, the parish priest, expressed gratitude to Bishop D'Souza and the participating priests for their dedication to the Mass. He also extended heartfelt appreciation to all individuals and committees that contributed to the success of the nine-day novena and the feast celebrations.

The Feast of St Lawrence concluded on a high note with a closing ceremony marked by grandeur and devotion. Dr Roshan D’Souza, Chancellor of Udupi Diocese, led the proceedings, reflecting on the foundational significance of love in family life. Drawing from his sermon, he outlined ten essential keys to fostering a fruitful family life, encompassing virtues such as love, prayer, appreciation, respect, forgiveness, and humility.

The event was attended by a host of respected clergy members, including Fr Peter Gonsalves, Fr Lancy D'Souza, Fr J B Saldanha, and Fr J B Crasta, among others. Bondel is a wonderful parish, where the people are very kind and friendly. I appreciate their spirit of harmony and love. I understand that some other parishes may face some challenges, especially where there are many new converts. I hope that we can all learn from the example of Bondel parish and strive to become more like them.
