Bantwal, Aug 11: In a decisive turn of events, Indira Kanapade, backed by the BJP, has been elected as the president of Navoor gram panchayat for her second consecutive term. Simultaneously, Narayana Devasyapadoor assumes the role of vice president.
The elections were skillfully orchestrated under the guidance of Sunita, the social welfare officer, and took place at the gram panchayat auditorium on Friday. The gram panchayat PDO extended full cooperation to ensure the smooth conduct of the proceedings.
In the past two years, the administration of Navoor gram panchayat was under the jurisdiction of the Congress party, comprising nine members. The BJP held seven members during that period. However, a by-election witnessed the victory of a BJP-supported candidate, shifting the balance. Moreover, a Congress member's recent switch to the BJP further bolstered their numbers to nine, leading to their ascendancy to power for the second consecutive term.
