Tomato prices slump in Mangaluru, Udupi to Rs 70 per kg

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru/Udupi (MS)

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 12: Tomato prices fell in the coastal region after the slump was noticed first in capital Bengaluru.

In Mangaluru and Udupi, tomato was sold at Rs 70 per kilo on Friday.

The price of tomato which had reached Rs 200 in some states, was on a downward trend from Monday. On Tuesday, it was sold at Rs 90-100 and on Thursday slumped further to Rs 80 per kilo.

Tomatoes are supplied in huge quantities after the rains have reduced which has caused the slump in the prices. Sources said that the price will go down further in a few days.

There should be continuous inflation in food items and common man, middle class, normal rich should suffer ? So sometimes Tomatoes, sometimes onions... exorbitant price hikes ? Luckily some govt freebies so common man can breathe in.

Such wide fluctuations in food commodity prices are because of the total collapse of supply chain logistics planning, lack of coordination between states, and the involvement of brokers in collusion with hoarders; ultimately, it's a big jolt for farmers who have the misfortune of harvesting their crop at this point in time! Big money was minted by middlemen and hoarders who operated in sync and took advantage of the system! This shows how advanced and intelligent our planners are? Sorry state of affairs like a third world places😔!!

The rogue middlemen are playing with the sentiments of the gullible public by playing a seesaw game; as you said, some other commodity price will shoot up shortly!

It taught us a good lesson in lifei.Tomoto were alway considered cheap when compared to apples and mangoes. It even crossed more than apple.Mangoes,Apple looking down to tomoto saying how expensive we are .Not to underestimate anyone as tomoto showed they are nothing less. A huge lesson in life.

It's because of total mismanagement of the administration; in some states, tomato crop was going abegging while other places there was scarcity in production; as there was no proper planning and coordination, people had to suffer; otherwise there is no reason for this unprecedented spurt in prices; much more is yet to come next year, this being a drought year and El nino predicted to persist!

Very good news, but India is such a country that anything can happen at any time. After sometime the rates will fall to Re 1, and the farmers will start crying and start to throw Tometo on the roads.. very strange.
