Are Dhoni’s dream days over for India ?

By Denzil Fernandes

London, Aug 5: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is no more leading the Indian cricket team from the front !  In fact, many critics have already started calling for his head and unless things take a drastic turn for the better, the Indian captain may suddenly find that his days are numbered.  The third test at Edgbaston is going to be a ‘make or break’ situation for the Indian captain.  If his team wins and then goes on to beat England in the fourth test and square the series all the heat will be cooled down.  Then only Dhoni will be able to breathe freely.  But will England allow the 2-0 lead to slip away?

The Indian team is now in the process of finding out who will play in the forthcoming matches and who will not.  India’s spearhead in the bowling attack Zaheer Khan has  played for a day or so in the first test at Lords and limped off from the field.  Likewise, Gambhir got hit on the elbow and is still doubtful to play.  Harbhajan who did not do well in the two tests has abdominal strain and has been ruled out of the tour.  Yuvraj Singh has an injury on his hand and is going back to India with Bhajji.  Team India have already summoned Kohli and Ojha as replacements and the team really looks like a batch of injured soldiers.  The signs of any Indian recovery are looking very bleak.  At the moment, the team looks like a disjointed lot.

However, there is good news that opener Virender Sehwag is expected to take his place in the third test at Edgbaston after missing the first two tests due to injury.  Although Sehwag has not played any cricket since May 7th last he will bolster the Indian batting and will be a thorn for the England side.  When on song, no one can stop the Delhi daredevil.

Dhoni   has been one of the most successful India captains before the England tour commenced.  He has under his belt the T20 World Championship, two wins in IPL as the Chennai captain, one win the Champions League and the recent World Cup victory in the sub continent.  India has been on the top of the world ranking as the best test side but are now in danger of losing that coveted position with losses to England in the current test series.

Despite a fabulous time so far with the team, nothing has been going well in England  for the otherwise successful player and captain.  Dhoni has been struggling as a batsman, unable to gather the balls cleanly behind the stumps in England and above all a miserable sight as the India captain fumbling time and time again.  To add to his non performance, he has tried his hand as a bowler giving the wicketkeeping job to Dravid.  Captain ‘cool’ as he is often called  is now all set to be dismantled after such a drubbing from England.

But a brave Dhoni says that a turnaround is not impossible.  To his critics, it will be a joke of the century without doubt.  England skipper Strauss will now be looking at a 4-0 whitewash with all guns blazing.  As the days progress, a total rout is on the cards for Team India.  There is no other result in sight at the moment.

The dark clouds are emerging over the Indian cricket horizon and there seems to be no saviour for the team.  Each and every player on tour has been found wanting and except for a few patches of brilliance nothing has gone right for India.  Except for Rahul Dravid who has managed a couple of  tons there has not been any sort of
batting consistency visible.  Even the bowling department has suffered which has given a great opportunity for their rivals to plunder runs at will.  Lesser known late order batsmen have been able to score for England which clearly shows the poor quality of Indian bowling. Comparatively, the England bowlers have bowled to a plan and peppered the Indians with short pitched bowling with telling effect.  As Gavaskar rightly put it, the Indian side has looked like a schoolboys team against the formidable Englishmen.

One of the most successful Indian captains who has also flourished on a personal front with such lucrative endorsements and achievements, Dhoni seems to be going through a bad patch without any doubt.  He seems to be short of quality bowlers and even his personal performance on the field has been nothing but ordinary.  When he has to lead from the front with his own show on the field, MSD has so far been an abject failure which has turned the Indian side into a hapless pack of non performers.  As long as this situation continues, England will romp home and  the Indians will quickly lose their top rank in the world of cricket.

The next two tests are going to be a huge ask for Dhoni and his boys to outwit the supremely confident English side.  If ever that happens, every Dhoni critic will bite his tongue and the Indian skipper will have the last laugh !  It is ‘now or never’ for Dhoni and Team India.

The fickleness of Indian media and Indian fan is a by word, something which the cricketers will well do to remember. Having said that it is not correct to write off Dhoni all together. We should have had a test captain and a captain for the one day and T20, since both require different temperament to play the game.

The selectors are to blame and maybe if a ban is to placed on the sponsorship ads which the player seems to be so fond of, they will get back there will, aptitude and the fighting spirit instead of making cricket totally commercial

Readers, Read Gladson Brahmawars Comments, which reflects the actual face of Dhoni. He is 100% right. The Actual fact is coming out now. Dhoni is a lucky person to get the players like, Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, Zaheer, Yuvi, and some talented. The actual winning results come because of these highly talented players' effort, but being a captain, Dhoni takes all the credit. Without the about players, Dhoni is zero. He can not even score a fifty alone in absence of the above players. This tour is a an example. Dhoni need to go now. Gambhir or Yuvi, you are the right choices for Indian Capitain. One question. Why did Dhoni came ahead of Yuvi on the finals of WC? Bad captain. He had a fear that Yuvi will finish the innigns with sixes.

For the first tiem Nagesh maam saying nobody to blame.

Every other time he would have blamed like this "The psuedos lead by Italian Lady and antinationals are prompting Dhoni to under perform"

" Instead of Sharad pawar, make Srimaan Yaddiji or Shobaji or Raghavendra ji ICC Chairman, then they will develop cricket too, like they have developed Karnataka"

Dhoni's dream days over..not yet..it will be OVER when Sachin,Laxman and Dravid will retire.Engalnd test series is just the beginning.Dhoni and cricket fans should owe this trio for their magnificient, mesmerizing innings all these period.Dhoni is a good One day captain..no doubt about that. But he is lucky captain as far as test matches are concerned.Basic rules in test cricket is Bat first when you win the toss..especially in England and Australian pitches one must follow this rule. But Dhoni went against that rule.He is always believe in Zaheer and Harbajan even if they are half fit and make 100% fit youngsters waiting in dressing room.Test cricket needs patience, technique. Our youngsters dont have this, they play IPL shot .When captain himself busy in playing IPL shot, then boys will folllow him. What can they do ?

Yes, I agree with the author that 'Dhoni's dreamdays are over'! Of late, his perfomance with the bat as well as behind stumps is less than mediocre! Has his marriage making him feel more tired or drained of his youthful energy...OR having shaved his hair on the head has lost his strenght like 'Samson and Delilah' epic story? Just asking!

We can't judge Dhoni just for he lost 2 tests. Wait for few days and see how he will shut the mouth of his critics. Remember his batting at World Cup final. That's typical Dhoni style...

MSD has indeed been a great Captain. Can we forget that he has won the World Cup , Twenty Twenty and Team India has been no 1 in Tests for quite a long time. But we Indians have very short memories . Who can forget the sad way Ajit Wadekar was dumped and had to retire prematurely when India lost in England .Even the great Mansur Ali Khan (Pataudi)was let down by the ors. A captain is as good as his team and we should not forget that the current team has a number of passengers in it like Harbhajan Singh and injuries to key players and lack of foresight on the ors to strengthen the bench has had serious consequences.

If only they had encouraged youngsters like Ashwin against the weak West Windies would have resulted in a strong 15 instead of a weak First 11. Unless we groom a good second eleven and give a fair chance to the youngsters we can never find proper replacements for the likes of Dravid, VVS and the great Sachin. We can only shudder to think of the huge batting hole that will be left by the absence of this great trio in the near future as they are all on the wrong side of their 30's .

For me Dhoni was never the best captain. But he's one of the greatest politicians who has ever played cricket. He does not have any traits that make a captain. But he would go down the Indian cricketing annals as the luckiest captains. However, over the period of time, he has almost destroyed the fabric of Indian team just in order to keep his captaincy and his place intact. His aversion for senior players such as Dravid, Laxman or SRT is often seen and regular fall outs with Sehwag and Yuvi are evidences of it. Both the WC victories under him were not the result of astute captaincy either. He has systematically done away with players from the South/non Hindi regions just in order to promote his Dostana partners RP, R Jadeja Yusuf and even Saha. He's a square peg in a round hole called Indian test team. He has a mellow and goody face that covers a stubborn, average personality. If India gets a good start in one-dayers and are placed healthy, he will promote himself up the order and if there is early wickets fall, he’ll just push himself down. Anyone he sees as a potential captaincy material, he will do away with him by hook or crook. He did that with Robin Uthappa, a top order batsman. As long as he was in the team, he was asked to play as low as 7th down and managed to get him out. The next on the line is Kohli. Dhoni’s prime aim has always been to up his average. He needs to be replaced at least in the test team now so that either he’ll come back strong or stays banished.

this man is the one of the greatest captains ever to play the game, but suddenly after 2 losses some fools say he should be sacked from the captainship what a cruel people they are, we indian fans are indepted to dhoni & current indian players because they are the ones who have taken india to the top of the world in all forms, first of all you can't judge india without the main players, when the 3rd test starts we will be full strength and we will show why we are the no.1 in the world, inclusion of sehwag gambhir in the top, & zaheer in the bowling top order will roll over the england team, beating a depleted indian team is not a achievement the real test for england will be from the 3rd test onwards, bring them on!

    Yes His Time Is over,
Luck will never be with every time..
He is the Worst, Selfish and luckiest Captian ever India had..
He still in team not because of his talent its by Luck..
He got the best Indian Team in Indian Cricket History,.
To keep his batting average he even give strike to 11th man in last overs..
Someone will say its because him India take World Cup because of him..
But they must think his last 9 innings total score before the final is just around 150..
Even a worst player will make a fifty in 10 matches.. thats only happened in the Final..
Even praveen Kumar & Harbhajan bat well than Him
he has no confidence in his batting thats y he decided to stop play at Windies when India need below 6 per over in 15 overs with 7 wickets left..
He must retire for a better Indian Cricket Team..

and media should keep away from cricket Ground as they are doing job to give firstration to indian cricket team because they dont have any other news to ren their media channel 24*7.
but we should keep pessions as we have a Great captaion who have a capacity to manager pressure and can turn in to winner side.

I completely agree..Dhoni has hardly scored any runs since 2010..his scores are like 5,14,13,1 and big Zeros..!!! his last test century ws in 2009 !!!!!!! he takes the credit of wins but its actually others in team who contribute in batting (Dravid, Sachin, VVS, Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj) and in balling by our good bowlers!!! Dhonis has messed with wicketkeeping also..he s catches..it time Dhoni performs as individual now rather than hiding behing title of "captain"....

Even if England become No 1, they will be so by beating others on home grounds. Let them come to India, we will beat them 4-0 then and regain No 1 test status. Nothing great about England. But India should have done better preparations. Good luck to Dhoni and team. But we should cut the hype on Sachin please. Lets hope India win at least 1 test and restore some respect for themselves.

The proverb is Fortune favors fools.
Like that all these days fortune was
    favoring our cricket team. Hereafter
Dhoni can not fool his supporters.Neither he leads his team
properly nor he is having the killing instinct .His team mates are also not delivering the goods as expected.Poor fielding, very poor
batting led to the defeat in both
the tests. It is very difficult to win the remaining matches. The English team is well composed. They have got the guts to retaliate.

hay! what is this? only defeat in two matches doesn't define fate and leadership quality of a successful leader.this is very bad and unfortunate that our own people are not with our team which is in difficult situation.we shld not forget one thing that most of our players are injured.this is not time to blame team INDIA.this period is merely bad phase of our team.our boys are capable of winning any tough situation anywhere in the world.this is the time to support them.and for dhoni we are with you captain.don't think about the criticism about urself. u r a great leader n u have a born leader identity.just go and lead team INDIA from front show ENGLAND that these two wins were the only gift to them and no more win they are going to get. the next two wins are ours bcz now we are back.

COME ON BOYS AND SHOW YOUR METTLE OF BEING WORLD CHAMPION IN ONE DAY AND WORLD NO. 1 TEAM IN TEST CRICKET.

    Its easy to criticise...Mr.Author.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going,Leave Dhoni alone, where are other 10 members, support staff, the ors, coaches??????Its ridiculous...once the winning combination is back,u will again back Dhoni and the famous MEN IN BLUE.Its difficult with such a tight schedule and depleted side.Dhoni is a born leader and his boys have proven everything that this sport can define.THEY will bounce back, give them a break and ENGLAND will pay every for every wound that they have caused.
THE INDIAN MEDIA and these flopped and lost crickters can only speak rubbish. They had their chances but couldnt do one good for themselves and the country.oh.i forget,u ppl r earning your bread by bad mouthing these heros who jst a few months back gave u a topic to talk after 28 years and saved many a jobs u media persons.Leave them alone and yes either you r with us or not be it good times or bad ones.

The likes of Gavaskar's , Shashtri's and Ganguly's by no means can criticize Dhoni. Who can ever forget the slowest knock of Gavaskar (36 in 60 overs) or the greasy shashtri (come on the front foot and then defend the ball) and the most selfish mind of indian cricket (Ganguly). Apart from giving us two world cups (T20 and One Day), under Dhoni's leadership, the team grew to be most fearless and attacking in Indian history, ever. When things went well, the calmness of Dhoni was praised by all cricket greats in the world and when the opposite happened, his coolness is being referred as weakness. Remember, we are number one in test cricket because of players like Sehwag, Gambhir, Zak and if they are injured, how do you expect us to beat a resurgent England team. This gets to show nothing the usual DNA of the Indians, which is nothing but short sightedness.
