New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS): The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stepped up its attack on Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Friday as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, allegedly blaming her for irregularities in Commonwealth Games contracts, was set to be tabled in parliament.

"I think now it is the only moral duty of Dikshit that she must resign," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters ouside parliament.

"If not, the Congress high command must ask her to step down immediately and they can elect their new chief minister," he said.

Another BJP leader, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, said if Dikshit resigned, "it is in favour of the government of the day in Delhi, the situation has been aggravated by repeated charges of corruption".

"This is just the beginning of a large charge of corruption against the Congress government all over and this is just one on them," Rudy said.

The CAG report on irregularities in the October 2010 Commonwealth Games is to be tabled in parliament Friday, according to the business listed for the two houses.

The report, which has already caused much uproar after being leaked to the media, is expected to point fingers at Dikshit and even the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The Delhi government, however, insists there have been no irregularities.

According to reports, the federal auditor slammed the Dikshit government for lapses and irregularities, stating the contracts for the Games were overpriced and delayed to make money.

The CAG has also reportedly slammed the PMO for ignoring warnings against Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi.

The Commonwealth Games took place in the Indian capital Oct 3-14 last year.
