Udupi: Police vigilant about clubbing, pubbing in Manipal, strict actions initiated

Udupi, Aug 12: In a proactive move, the Udupi district police have intensified efforts to address the issue of illegal pubs and clubs operating within the Manipal area.

On Saturday, August 12, the Manipal police issued a stern directive to all pub and club proprietors, instructing them to refrain from employing DJ music and sound systems. A similar order was concurrently released by the excise department.

Furthermore, the Manipal police have bolstered security measures in response to numerous weekend DJ night parties that had been planned. Adhering to the mandates from both the police and the excise department, pub owners promptly canceled their pre-booked DJ music events, thereby limiting their establishments to dining services only.

Augmenting the security apparatus in the town, an additional contingent of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) has been deployed.

To enforce compliance, the police established three checkpoints, taking resolute actions against traffic violators within the bounds of the law.

These stringent measures were enacted following the submission of a memorandum by Udupi district Congress leaders to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The memorandum highlighted the menace posed by illegal pubs and clubs operating in Manipal, and their deleterious effects on the local community.

Reliable sources indicate that these pubs and clubs operate under music bar licenses granted by the tourism department. Such licenses stipulate that music systems can only be employed between 6 am and 10 pm, with requisite permissions to be sought from local police stations.

In India, govt does not want you to make money, it just want to exploit the citizens. Now how is running pubs or clubs bad? The owners will make money, they will employee more people to work at their establishment, people who want to enjoy weekends will enjoy. How is this a bad thing? Govt just wants rich to get more richer and poor to struggle. If you pay hafta every thing will be legal.
