Mangaluru: Konkani Natak Sabha holds 21st dance contest at Don Bosco Hall

Mangaluru, Aug 14: Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) conducted the 21st Konkani dance competition at Don Bosco Hall on Sunday, August 13.

The event commenced with the KNS Anthem, Dr Rocky D'Cunha, president of KNS extending a warm welcome to the participants and attendees, and he delivered an encouraging message to the competitors, wishing them the best of luck.

Renowned emcee actor Manu Bantwal and Santhosh Sequeira Kankanady, philanthropist and well-wisher of KNS were the chief guests for the event.
 






































 
 






 
The competition was inaugurated by lighting the lamp with Liston D'Souza KNS vice-president, Floyd D'Mello, general secretary, Cletus Lobo, assistant secretary, Gerald Concessao, treasurer, competition convenors Deepak D'Souza, Pamela Santos and Shanthi Dias also being present on the dais.

Addressing the gathering, Manu Bantwal said, "In the past 80 years Konkani Natak Sabha has given tremendous contribution to Konkani art and culture. Thousands of artistes have showcased their talents at this Don Bosco Hall stage and have reached the heights, I am also one among them who got an opportunity to perform in this stage."
  
He also said failure was the first step to achieve success, "If you fail in your first attempt, never give up, because failure means first attempt in learning," he said.

A total of 52 entries from 4 different categories with 81 participants from various age groups, ranging from Below 10 years, 10 to 15 years and above 15 years showcased their dancing talents in solo, duet and married couple categories.

The competition received valuable support from KNS manager Boniface Pinto and assistance from KNS managing committee members and unit members of Ladies Unit, Jeppu Unit, and Bendur Unit.

Renowned dancers and choreographers Avil D'Cruz, Nigel Pereira and Awin Eric Cutinha served as the esteemed judges for the competition.

Sunil Menezes, former vice-president of KNS handled the computation of scores. Liston D'Souza announced the results.

Floyd D'Mello skillfully compered the programme and concluded with a vote of thanks.

10 to 15 Years Duet

- Third Place: Wilona D'Souza & Chelsea Alvares, Ashoknagar

Married Couples
 
- First Place: Nixon Crasta & Ashwitha Frank, Ashoknagar
- Consolation Prize: Ronald Jerald Fernandes & Rashmi Maria D'Souza, Milagres
